

Richard Fields, age 67, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Richard was born to Edwin Fields and Janet (Haines) Lanier in Dayton, Ohio on August 13, 1958. He was better known to family and friends as ‘Slick’. Richard acquired his nickname as a kid when he went into business with his two brothers shoveling snow for the neighbors. His brothers did the shoveling and Richard did the talking and drinking the hot chocolate with the customers. The brothers thought that was real ‘Slick’.
He loved bluegrass music, the Dallas Cowboys and was an outstanding cook who specialized in homemade cornbread.
Richard worked for Dorothy Lane Market in Springboro, Ohio for over 21 years. He took tremendous pride in keeping their store squeaky clean. He was lovingly called ‘The King of Maintenance’ by his wife, Julia. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed visiting with customers and co-workers. He had a keen talent to make people laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Edward “Eddie” L. Lanier; brother, Roger L. Fields; and sister, Diane (Larry) Engle.
Richard is survived by his wife, Julia S. Fields; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Charles (Rita) Fields, Paul Ray (Angie) Fields and Judy Fields; 6 nieces and nephews, Kasee (Bradley) Ault and family, Kori (Nick) Fields and family, Jason (Danielle) Fields and family, Jamie Sue (Jason) Lorenz and family, Michael (Angie) Engle and family, and Levi Fields; Aunt Becky Wieser; and his beloved dog, Harley.
Friends may call on the family from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2026 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E 2nd St, Franklin, Ohio, 45005. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Benny Spencer presiding. Burial to follow at Miami Corwin Cemetery, Waynesville, Ohio.
