June 25, 1947 – September 13, 2025
Richard S. “Dick” Wheeler, 78, of Springboro, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 25, 1947, Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He spent 30 years with NCR in Dayton before retiring in 2009, having previously worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Cincinnati. Through his long and dedicated career, Dick was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to those he worked with.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Dick was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Franklin and St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Springboro. He was raised in Cincinnati, where his faith was first nurtured at St. Monica-St. George Catholic Church, a parish that held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
He found joy in simple pleasures—playing a round of golf, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and Bearcats basketball team, and rooting for Notre Dame football. Music was also close to his heart, with Frank Sinatra’s “I Did It My Way” holding special meaning for him.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Wheeler, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage; his daughter, Monica Jones; his son, Chris Wheeler; and his cherished grandchildren, Shelby and Wyatt Jones. He is also remembered by many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luella and Ellsworth Wheeler; his sister, Carol Ann Wheeler; and his brothers, Kenny and Roger Wheeler.
Those who knew Dick will remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was always there for his family—no matter what. He had a gentle heart, a quick wit, and a deep love for his dogs, CJ and Marty. His compassion and sense of humor left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege to know him.
