
Vertie’s career of nearly 59 years was helping her husband, Reverend Dencil Owsley as Pastors of the Franklin FreeWill Baptist Church in Franklin Ohio. She also taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for 37+ years and served as President of the Ladies Club for many years. As a newlywed in Kentucky, she was a telephone operator and while living in Michigan, she worked a very short time as a “Rosie The Riveter” on B-52 bombers during the war. While in Ohio, many will remember her as their “Avon Lady” for 30 years. However, her #1 priority and proudest position was that of Chief Caretaker and Protector of her family, who she treasured.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ed and Elsie VanHoose, 3 sisters, Hazel Cooper, Virginia Sizemore, Gertrude Burkett, 4 brothers, Traber VanHoose, Randall VanHoose, Bill VanHoose, and James Willard VanHoose.
Vertie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Reverend Dencil Owsley, daughters Pam (Ron) Temple and Rhonda Beculheimer. She also leaves behind 4 grand-children, Tonya Temple, Shane (Lushelle) Temple, Chad (Christi) Beculheimer , Andy (Katie) Beculheimer, 6 great grand children, Megan Temple, Christopher Barker, Cody Beculheimer, Jake Beculheimer, Mallory (Todd) Bryer, Jeremy Shane Temple, 4 great-great grandchildren, Grayson Todd Bryer, Sawyer Savage, Julian Lane, and Madyson Pamela Faith Temple. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Ruth Cecil and Mary Smith of Michigan, and Lucille Barker of Ohio. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved church family and a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be Monday February 20, 2017 10:00 am at the Freewill Baptist Church, Franklin, Ohio with Drew Banks, Hubert Short and Westley Meeks officiating. Visitation will be Sunday February 19, 2017 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Anderson Funeral Home 1357 E. 2nd. St. Franklin. Burial in Springboro Cemetery. Condolences may be made to www.anderson-fh.com.
