

Walter B. Evans, age 95, of Middletown, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 15, 1917, in Austin, Pennsylvania, the son of W. Boyd and Elizabeth Fillion Evans. He was raised in Ligonier, Pennsylvania and lived in Middletown since 1948. Walter was educated in Pennsylvania schools including St. Vincent College and Penn State. Walter served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July, 1942 to February, 1946; serving in France in a Transportation Battalion and in the South Pacific as Equipment Officer in the 27th Engineer Construction Battalion. He worked 41 years for American Aggregates Corp and Subsidiary Company American Materials Corp as District Manager and Vice President. Walter was charter member and director of Brown's Run Country Club, director of Community Federal Savings and Loan, life member of the American Legion #218, VFW #3809, and a 50-year member of the Jefferson Lodge #90 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and the Antioch Shriners. He is survived by one nephew, William R. Mary Lou Ruffin; and two nieces, Elizabeth Larry Ruffin Armstrong and Mary Ellen Ferguson Nettles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie R. Evans in 2009; both parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Evans Ferguson and Jane Evans Ruffin. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Doty officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
