Walter Decania Hutto Jr.

Walter D. (Pete) Hutto Jr. of Cincinnati passed away on August 5, 2026, at age 95. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cornelia, one son Steve (Amy), two daughters Dr. Gail Heppner (Brent) and Judith Hutto, five grandsons, Tyler Mattscheck, Brandon Mauk (Lyndi), Jack Hutto, Ben Heppner and Sam Heppner, three granddaughters Krista Siemer (Nate), Madison Sawyer (Jackson) and Bayley Mattscheck and two great grandsons, Maverick Seimer, Kaleb Mauk and two great granddaughters, Hailey Mattscheck and Sadie Mauk. He was devoted to his wife and family. Pete was born in Petersburg, Virginia to Walter (Sr.) and Francis Hutto. He is survived by 2 brothers, Bill (Becky) of Birmingham, Alabama and Randy (Vonne) of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Andy.

Pete spent his early years in Virginia. He graduated from Auburn University in 1954 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He served as an officer with the Second Armored Division of the US Army in Germany in the mid 1950’s. Pete joined GE Aircraft Engines in 1960, remaining there until his retirement in 1992. He made many contributions to the design and development of the most technologically advanced military engines of the time. He was inducted into the GE Aviation Hall of Fame in 2012.

Pete was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Finneytown. He was an avid golfer and a long-time golf member of the Hamilton Elks. He served in leadership positions in both the Hamilton Elks Golf Association and the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association. Pete was also avid sports fan, especially of the Reds, Bengals and the Auburn Tigers.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Finneytown on Saturday, August 29 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Pete’s name to Hospice of Cincinnati. www.hospiceofcincinnati.org/donate
