

Our mom, Alicia Hornilla Ruiz passed away peacefully at home in San Jose at the age of 86 surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 8th, 2022. She is reunited with her husband, Jessie Ruiz, Sr. to whom she was married to for 45 years until his passing in December of 2007.
She was born the sixth child out of seven to her parents Angel and Felina Hornilla on September 12, 1935 in Batangas City, Batangas, Philippines. She attended Philippines Women’s University and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.
She married Jessie Ruiz Sr. on March 31, 1962 and migrated to the U.S. in 1965. The U.S. Navy stationed them in Norfolk, VA then Key West, FL then Alameda, CA in the early 70’s. They ultimately settled in San Jose in the mid-70’s. From the 1980’s, she worked at several Silicon Valley semiconductor companies such as National Semiconductor, Monolithic Memories, AMD, and Linear Technology, Inc. until she retired in 2000 at the age of 65.
In her retirement years, she was an avid volunteer with the local San Jose Lions group and loved to travel around the world with her husband, family, and friends.
She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, especially her grandkids, and friends, as well as her passion to serve her community through volunteering.
She is survived by her children: Kuya Boy Jessie Ruiz, Jr. (Doris), Jessica Ruiz, Jennifer Malate, Jennie Long (Buster), Jessie Ruiz IV, and Jeffrey Ruiz (Obing); grandchildren: Jon Dean and David James Ruiz, Zachary Garcia, Janel and Kore Malate, Chloe and JT Long, and Marley and Mason Ruiz; and her brother Kuya Carmelo Hornilla and younger sister Evelyn Maniago.

Friday, February 11th at 5-8 pm: Memorial Service at Lima Family Milpitas-Fremont Mortuary; w /Rosary at 5pm
Saturday, February 12th at 10 am: Funeral service/mass at St. Victor’s Catholic Church, San Jose.
Saturday, February 12th at 12 noon: Graveside Service at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Milpitas-Fremont

Due to the current COVID protocols for Santa Clara County, all guests must wear protective masks at all times while inside the funeral home facility and practice the recommended six foot social distancing. Also, food and beverages will not be served.
