

Alvina Louise Langen passed away on October 15, 2012, just four days short of her 104th birthday.
Alvina was born on October 19, 1908, to Martha and Alfred Vonnegut in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
She was the oldest of eight children when the family moved to Oakland, CA, in 1923. There she finished her schooling and met her husband, Bernhard Langen, and started their family.
In 1943, she moved to San Leandro and became involved with the Young Ladies Institute, Order of Hermann Sons, San Leandro Garden Club, as well as becoming involved in the Past Presidents, Commuters, and Sewing groups.
She enjoyed playing cards, making baby clothes for Birthright, knitting, crocheting and sewing for charities.
Alvina is survived by her three children Martha and Tom Bratton, Alfred and Erika Langen, and John and Sally Langen; six grandchildren Tim and Heidi Bratton, Melina Bratton, Mike and Jeanne Langen, Chris Langen, Fred Langen, and Ben and Crystal Langen, and six great-grandsons, Max and Owen Bratton, Alexander and Nicholas Langen, and Benjamin and Trenton Langen. She is also survived by her youngest brother, Paul Vonnegut, two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Vonnegut and Marion Vonnegut, and many nieces and nephews.
Catholic Mass will be Friday, October 19, 2012 at ten o’clock at Saint Leander Catholic Church 550 West Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro, California. Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 1051 Harder Road Hayward, CA 94542.
