Joie Gil (née Joie Marie Browne) of Milpitas died Wednesday Jun. 5 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Fremont on Tuesday afternoon. Her three-year-old son, Angelo Gil, was also involved in the accident, and died Tuesday.
Joie was born to Donald and Lola Browne on Jan. 20, 1982 in Mountain View, California. She studied at Milpitas High School, and worked as an accountant for Payment One in San Jose. Angelo was born on Jun. 18, 2009.
Joie enjoyed gardening, baking, going to the beach, and spending time outdoors.¬ She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, the love she had for her family, her ability to speak her mind freely, and for the open heart and mind with which she saw the perspectives, problems, and needs of other people.
Her vital organs have been donated to the California Transplant Donor Network, and will help as many as eight others to live long, healthy lives.
She and Angelo are survived by her parents; her husband, Gilbert Gil; and by her two children and three stepchildren—McKayla Browne, Derrick Garcia Jr., Valencia Gil, Gilbert Gil Jr., and Leticia Gil. Their other survivors include: Joie’s grandmother, Bee McKinnon, of San Mateo; her brother and brother-in-law, Donnie Browne and David Martin, of Fort Lauderdale; her sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Cameron Wayte, of Boulder Creek; her nieces and nephews—Mackenzie Browne, Morgan Browne, Arabelle Hughes, Nathan Browne, Nick Browne, Noah Browne, and Madison Wayte; and by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to a trust currently being set up by Payment One to alleviate the cost of her children’s college expenses. A Fundly.com campaign is also receiving funds for this purpose, and can be accessed at http//fundly.com/in-memory-of-joie-and-angelo-gil.
A viewing will be held from 4-9pm Wednesday, and a funeral service will take place at 11:30am Thursday, both at Lima Family Mortuary in Fremont.
