Lovingly known as Ditas or Dee, she was born on August 20, 1946, in Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines, to the late Julio and Loreto Montemayor. Bernardita’s life was defined by grace, quiet strength, and a deep devotion to her family.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Baguio General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969, she immigrated to the United States, where she chose to stay home and care for her young children. Though she was unable to continue her path as a registered nurse, she later trained as a Certified Nurse Assistant, working tirelessly to support both her loved ones in the Philippines and her growing family in the U.S, dedicating her life to helping others. She worked with diligence in various nursing homes and eventually retired from Stanford University Hospital.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roberto Newland Burdios, and her devoted children: Angelica Montemayor Burdios, Brian Wilbur Burdios (wife Leilani), and Cheryl Lynn Burdios Choa (husband James). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Christopher Ryan, Anthony Jeane, Joseph James, Azaleah Jennah, Jaime IV, Keleila Elizabeth, and Gabrielle DeShea—each of whom brought her immeasurable pride and joy.
Bernardita was also a treasured sister, sister-in-law, cousin, aunt, grandaunt, and a true friend to many. Her warmth and compassion left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
A Life of Love and Legacy
Bernardita was a woman of quiet wisdom, humility, and unshakable faith. She had a warm smile that made everyone feel at home. Whether caring for her grandchildren, playing mahjong with friends, enjoying her favorite sci-fi and horror movies, or reaching out to help those in need, she gave of herself freely and generously.
She also expressed her love through her exceptional cooking. Her signature dishes — Kare Kare, Dinuguan, Bilo Bilo, and many other Filipino favorites — brought comfort and connection to all who gathered at her table. For Bernardita, cooking was an act of love, and her kitchen was a place of laughter, storytelling, and togetherness.
Her Spirit Lives On
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life so beautifully lived. Bernardita leaves behind a legacy of kindness, patience, resilience, and selfless love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
"Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure.
She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
