September 30, 1931 – August 6, 2020
Fremont, CA
Born in Belle River, Illinois, Carlie graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. He had kept in touch with many of his
classmates who will miss him very much. Carlie had a heart for people so worked hard at keeping up with and encouraging
friends near and far. He made friends wherever he went. He loved telling stories of his earlier years, and for those who
listened there was a wealth of wisdom in those stories.
Carlie was a proud veteran who served in the Korean War from Feb. 1952-1954. Having worked many jobs in high school,
he continued learning and working after discharge. Just before coming to California he worked for Electro-Motive Division
building train engines. Moving to California, Carlie then secured a job at the Ford Motor Plant in Milpitas where he worked
for over 29 years. Because Carlie never let any grass grow under his feet, after retirement from Ford, he went to work for
Home Depot in Fremont. He once again kept up his friendships there over the years.
Carlie was also a lover of animals and nature. Carlie and his beloved three horses rode in parades, went backpacking and
had many years of pleasure riding in Mariposa, CA where they owned a family cabin. He loved boating and fishing with
his dog, Bandit. Carlie and Doris spent many enjoyable years being part of camping clubs with their trailers and RV’s. Not
to be outdone by summer activities, Carlie also enjoyed snow skiing with family and friends. The highlight of his later
years was jumping from an airplane on his 80th birthday with his three grandchildren and a group of friends. He also
motivated many people to join him in bowling, well into his 80’s.
Carlie was a man of faith in his Lord God and was very involved in Bridges Community Church in Fremont. He was an
usher, distributed food to the needy through Compassion Network and volunteered in many other activities.
Carlie is survived by his wife of 61 beautiful years Doris, his son, Stan and daughter in law, Valerie, three grandchildren;
Brandon, Jordan and Karissa, along with one great granddaughter, Melanie. He is preceded in death by his father Lloyd
Houseworth, his mother Thelma Houseworth Anderson, his step father Henry L. Anderson, his brother Omer Houseworth,
his sister in law Irene Houseworth and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Kaiser Hospital, Fremont for their loving care during his hospital
stay, especially during these trying times. Many thanks, also, go to friends who loved on and prayed for Carlie over the
years.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be sent to Bridges Community Church, 505 Driscoll Road, Fremont, CA
94539. When sending your check, please make sure to write Carlie Houseworth in the memo.
