Carol May Barnes
March 5, 1936 – March 2, 2018
Carol “Carrie” May Jones, the daughter of the late Mary Wells and Walter Clark Jones, was born March 5, 1936, in Jackson, Mississippi. She received her elementary education at public schools in Jackson Mississippi before the family relocated to Fresno, California where she completed her secondary education and graduated from Edison High School.
Carol's nickname was Honey, a determined and high spirited little girl. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, going to the movies and spending time with her three brothers; Walter, Aaron Jr, and Larry.
After high school, Carol worked as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell and married Charlie Junior Williams. During this union, she gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Kathy and two energetic sons, Kerry and Walter. As a devoted mother, Carol always wanted more for her kids and later relocated to San Jose with her parents and children where she worked during the day and attended nursing school at night. Carol’s nurturing spirit made it easy for her to soar as a certified nursing assistant, a profession she enjoyed for over 20 years until retirement in 1999 when first signs of health challenges surfaced.
Carol later married Richard Lightning Sr. and was blessed with a daughter Sandy and three active sons; Richard Jr., Shawn, and her baby boy Eric. Carol enjoyed years of happiness until she joined her parents, Larry and beloved son Richard Jr. on March 2, 2018, a few days short of celebrating 82 birthday with family.
Carol was outgoing, and the most kind-hearted person you could ever meet and passionate about helping people. She loved music, art and science and was grounded in her relationship with the Lord. Carol claimed the Dallas Cowboys as her football team! She liked Coach Tom Landry’s cool, calm and collected demeanor and many would even say she had the same demeanor. She lived her life to the fullest with the people she loved the most and family was her top priority. Carol’s nurturing spirit is forever etched in the heart all everyone fortunate to call her mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend.
Carol is survived by six kids Kathy, Kerry, Walter, Sandy, Shawn, and Eric and daughter-in-law, Tonya. Her legacy will live on through her 8 beautiful granddaughters, 8 intelligent grandsons, 30 talented great-grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Aaron and Walter, aunts Marie, Ruth and uncle Joseph, who she entrusts to watch over the family. Her friends will cherished fond memories of Carol forever.
