Cecilia Concepcion Rubio Albano Rivera, lovingly known to us all as Chita, was the fifth of ten children born to Col. Pedro Albano and Esperanza Rubio. She came into the world on November 23, 1954 in Manila, Philippines. She attended Holy Spirit Academy of Laoag City from elementary through high school. She then attended college at the University of Santo Tomas and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Medical Technology.
Chita traveled to the United States in 1985 and stayed with her Uncle Conrado Rubio Jr. and his family in Daly City. She reunited with the love of her life, Renato Rivera, known to us all as Edsel, and the two married several months thereafter in 1986. Once Chita and Edsel were married, they decided to plant their roots in San Jose, California.
She was employed mainly at IBM, which then became other organizations such as Western Digital later on. True to form, Cecilia remained employed there for about twenty-five years, advancing to various positions over the years. This is a testament to her character of unshakeable commitment, integrity, and determination!
Chita and Edsel eventually expanded their family from two to four! She gave birth to her
handsome son, Cyrus, in 1988. A couple of years later, to her beautiful daughter, Alexis, in 1991. A loving and dedicated mother, Cecilia had high hopes for her children to enter into the medical field. She set very high standards for them, the same way she set them for herself. One of her last wishes was to see Alexis graduate from her Respiratory Therapy program.
In addition to being a loving wife and a doting mother, she was also an ideal homemaker. She took great pleasure in cooking for her loved ones, especially the Filipino dishes igado and dinengdeng! How we miss her cooking! She also lived by the motto, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness!” This was truly evident starting at a young age when she was tasked with cleaning the family home on weekends. She carried that same work ethic and dedication into cleaning her own home! It was always spotless!
Chita was also a loyal and generous friend! She loved being surrounded by family members and close friends! Their home in San Jose was the place to celebrate special occasions!
Chita, you will surely be missed! We will treasure all the beautiful memories we have of you and will hold them close to our hearts! We love you!
