One of Uncle Joy’s favorite quotes, and one he would want everyone to remember him by, comes from Buddy the Elf: “Smiling is my favorite.”
Everyone who knew Uncle Joy knew him as a lovable, hard-headed jokester who could always make a room either burst into laughter or shake their heads in loving disgust. He had a personality that was impossible to forget and a sense of humor that could turn any moment into a hilarious, and sometimes very embarrassing, memory that would leave us smiling long after the moment had passed.
But more than just the family jokester, he was a loving husband, a devoted father to his daughter, Arielle, a loving son, a hilarious uncle, a loyal brother, and a friend to so many. Behind all the jokes, teasing, and embarrassing situations he got us into, Uncle Joy was someone who meant so much to the people in his life. His love for his family and the memories he created with us will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Though saying goodbye is never easy, we can take comfort in remembering the laughter he brought into our lives. Even now, we can imagine him watching over us, cracking jokes, and messing with us in the most bothersome but loving way possible.
He leaves behind his loving wife Gen, his daughter Arielle, and a family who will miss his humor, his presence, and all the little things that made him uniquely him.
Rest easy, Uncle Joy. Thank you for the laughs, the memories, and the moments we'll never forget. We love you, we'll miss you, and we'll do our best to honor your legacy by continuing to smile, just as you always reminded us to do.
Because, after all, smiling is our favorite.
Forever in our minds, our hearts, and our prayers.
