Dan was born in Stockton, CA, to Frank and Mamie Okubo. After the Japanese Internment, the family relocated to Pharr, Texas, for farming opportunities. Following graduation from high school, he attended Texas A&M University, but was called back home to help, during his 3rd year. Dan was drafted to the US Army in 1960, and stationed at Fort Ord in Marina, CA. During his service, he worked on Lacrosse missiles and was deployed to various countries. A few years later he joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, from which he retired in 1990 after 27 years in various Electronic Engineering groups. Dan met and married his wife of 23 years, May (Ikeda), until her passing in 1998.
Dan enjoyed fishing, classic cars and any type of electronic gadget that could make life fun and easy. He was an avid photographer and serious gun collector. He will be greatly missed.
Dan is preceded by his younger brother, Kenneth Okubo of Fremont, CA, and survived by his younger sister, Rosie Okubo of Merced, CA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In honor of Dan’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers or Japanese Koden, memorials or expressions of condolence can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
