
Dorothy Mae (Tobias) Di Giacomo, age 85, passed away in her home in San Jose, CA, on Monday, April 23, 2018. She was totally devoted to her family, a registered nurse for nearly 40 years, a real estate agent, and an active participant in her church community.
She is survived by her children, Fred DiGiacomo and his wife Katherine of San Jose, CA ; Jerry DiGiacomo and his wife Kelly of Meadow Vista, CA; John DiGiacomo and his wife Jacqueline of Citrus Heights, CA; Richard DiGiacomo and his wife Brenda of San Jose, CA; and Doreen Talbert and her husband David Wilson of La Honda, CA; as well as by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Katherine Tobias Marsh of Warren, Ohio, George Tobias of Irwin, PA, Thomas Tobias of Warren, Ohio, and Carol Tobias Strapple of Windber, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dominick DiGiacomo (married 57 years at the time of his death) and her brother John Tobias.
She was also dearly loved by extended family members, including in-laws Nick DiGiacomo and his wife Raymonde of Fremont, CA, and their family, Ann DiGiacomo Ealy and her husband Ronn of San Jose, CA, Jerry DiGiacomo and his wife Kathy of Austin, TX and their family, Joe DiGiacomo and his wife Doris of Lincoln, CA and their family, and her late sister-in -law Angy DiGiacomo Eperjessy and her husband Bob of Milpitas, CA and their family.
Dorothy Tobias was born in Windber, PA, to her late parents, John and Susan Claar Tobias on November 24, 1932. After graduating from Windber High School in 1951, she attended nursing school, and upon graduation and Dominick’s honorable discharge from the U.S Army, they were married on September 11, 1954.
She worked at Windber Hospital until the family moved to California in 1968. Dorothy continued to work as a nurse and later as a real estate agent in the San Jose area until her retirement in 1993. Dominick and Dorothy lived in San Jose for the remainder of their lives, where he worked as a successful insurance salesman and realtor until his retirement.
During that same period, Dorothy was actively involved in her church, Sunnyvale First Assembly of God/ Southbay Christian Center, where she served as director of Missionettes (girls’ ministry) and later directed the church’s home fellowship group program, also hosting a group at their home.
Her greatest joy was her relationship with God and her family always came first. She touched many lives and was loved by many.
In her final wishes statement, she said the following: “I’ve been blessed by many people who have loved me. I’ve cared for many people and have been cared for by many people. My greatest joy was making people feel loved.”
Anyone who knew her knew that she was successful in that mission.
A memorial service to honor Dorothy will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Sunnyvale International Church in Sunnyvale.
