

Dorothy was born on July 25, 1932 in Butte, Montana, the daughter of the late Margaret Pauline Allan (Shea) and Charles Harwood Allan, Jr. Her family relocated to San Francisco and she graduated from St. Rose Academy, and attended USF and Mount Zion Hospital where she earned her Registered Nursing license. Dorothy married Oscar John Sorensen on February 4, 1956 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in San Francisco. A resident of San Bruno for 39 years, during her career, Dorothy worked for private medical practices in San Mateo and Hayward.
Dorothy and John are the parents of three children: Erick Andrew Sorensen of Las Vegas, NV, Erin Anne (Sorensen) Sarvarian of Sacramento, CA and Craig Michael Sorensen of Denver, CO. She was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Arman Evan Sarvarian (Zara) of Guildford, UK, Andre Vigen Sarvarian of London, UK, Inga Sorensen of Portland, OR, and Thea Elisa Cornejo, Raquel Hamako Cornejo and Roman Angelo Elias Cornejo of Sacramento, CA and the great-grandmother of Esther Sarvarian. Dorothy leaves behind many friends, all of whom she loved and enjoyed very much.
Dorothy and John enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe and sailed on several cruises. She participated in many organizations and was a member of St. Robert’s Parish Women’s Guild, the Irish Center of San Francisco, Sons of Norway, former president of the Daughters of Norway, a Program and Events Specialist at AARP, collected volunteer hours with RSVP affiliated with Sutter Medical, a Senior Assembly Member with California Senior Legislature, and was on the Volunteer Services Advisory Council with Mills Peninsula Senior Focus as part of the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs. Dorothy was an advocate and strived to help others throughout her entire life. A friend said this best; “Dorothy was needed.”
Dorothy had an enormous love of life and will be remembered for her amazing sense of humor, love of her entire family and friends, compassion, and supporter of the arts and sciences. Her vibrant spark will be missed.
