Enza Celeste Volpe departed this world peacefully during her favorite season of spring this past week. She was born in Weed, California to Italian immigrant parents, Sebastiano and Maria Baglione. The family moved to San Jose where Enza grew up, attending Peter Burnett Jr High, San Jose High and receiving her teaching credential from San Jose State College during WWII. She met the love of her life, Mario Volpe, during the war and after maintaining a five year correspondence, she traveled to Italy with her father to marry Mario and return with him to San Jose. She taught elementary school in San Jose, Sacramento and Fremont for 10 years before devoting herself to being a housewife and mother. She was a founding member of St. John Vianney parish and the Italian-American Heritage Foundation. She was an active member of the St. John Vianney Altar Society for over 30 years and enjoyed decorating the church with lovely floral arrangements for weddings and holidays. Her husband, Mario, died in 1984 and she lived independently until the onset of dementia in her mid-80’s. She moved to Atria El Camino Gardens in Carmichael to be closer to her daughter, Silvana Volpe MD. There she entertained residents and staff with her piano renditions of songs from the 40’s and 50’s.
She is survived by her daughter, Silvana (John Warren MD), granddaughters, Gina Warren (Jonathan Leuth) and Lisa Warren, her brother, Frank Baglione, her nieces, Angela Marshall (Rick), Lidia Segoviano (Nicolas), Joanie Benevento, Laila Volpe, and her nephews, Rick Baglione(Marybeth) and Aldo Chavez (Cathy) who are all grateful that she lived a long life and blessed us with her love, her humor, her wonderful Italian cooking and her music. Donations in her memory can be made to Loaves and Fishes, St. John Vianney parish (San Jose), the Italian-American Heritage Foundation (San Jose). Funeral services will Friday, April 4th at 11:15am with visitation from 10am to 11am at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Chapel in Fremont
