Fletcher was born on January 10, 1923 in Coushatta, Louisiana to proud parents, Jessie and Creasie Loston. Surrounded by love Fletcher had seven siblings; Jessie Mae, Lucy Bell, Charlie, Leroy, Ike, Creasie and Jessie Jr. ( proceeded in death)
At the age of of 18, Fletcher enlisted into the United States Amy in April 1941 during WWII. He served 36 months overseas and was awarded American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Bronze Star. Honorably discharged, October 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.
Upon returning to Louisiana he purchased a home for his parents. Later that year he moved to Oakland, California and reconnected with his eldest child, Fannie Mae. In 1946 Fletcher met and married, Verda Smith (proceeded in death) and to this union three children were born.
Fletcher found the love of his life, Eunice Grant Taylor, they exchanged lifetime vows November 20th, 1971 and became stepfather to Eugene Wayne Murray (proceeded in death).
Soon after they purchased a home in Newark, Ca. and lived there ever since. Fletcher and Eunice would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
In 1982, Fletcher retired from Oakland Naval Supply Center after 36 years of service. Not yet ready to fully retire he continued to work as a janitor until 2011.
A true Christian Soldier, Fletcher served Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church for decades, including 71 years as an usher. Also an active Mason and member of the NAACP. He exhibited such pride in his community and home, he received the Newark Pride Award for the best kept yard from the City of Newark in 2003.
Fletcher, a loving and devoted family man, was known for his kind spirit, infectious laugh and firm hand shake. He would make friends everywhere he went and left a lasting impression.
Fletcher leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, wife Eunice Loston, three daughters; Fannie Patterson, Sheila May and Katryna Williams. One son, Jerome Loston, (wife Linda).
Ten grandchildren; Vernon, Willie, Dewitt, Donald, Helena (husband Jerrell) ,Tariq, Naimah, Eric, Ragan and Jonathan . Twenty-four great grandchildren, four great- great grandchildren and special nephew Allen Jackson, special cousin Mary Grant as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all whom admired, respected and loved him dearly.
