Guo Wei Huang, a devoted Christian, brilliant self-taught engineer, pioneering innovator in garment automation cutting system and semiconductor testing, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 83. His extraordinary life journey spanned from Shanghai to Silicon Valley, marked by deep faith, resilience, and quiet triumph over adversity.

Early Life and Resilient Beginnings

Born in 1943 in Shanghai, Guowei faced early hardships, raised by his mother and grandmother after his father left for the United States. Growing up under a heavy political shadow during the Cultural Revolution, he was barred from traditional higher education. Undeterred, he taught himself electronics, assembled radios, built televisions, a hobby that beautifully sparked his lifelong profession.

A Leader of Innovation

In 1967, Guowei joined the Shanghai Garment Industry Company. Rising from a humble apprentice tailor, despite holding only a high school diploma at the time, his intelligence

and mastery of digital circuits elevated him to spearhead a national research project. He and his team successfully developed China's first domestic clothing CAD/CAM automated cutting system—an achievement broadcasted on CCTV national news in 1986. During this foundational period, he married his beloved wife, Huifang, in 1972, and welcomed his son, Shuxian, in 1973. He later formalized his education, graduating from Shanghai Polytechnic

University in 1983.

The American Journey

In 1987, Guowei and his family immigrated to the United States to reunite with his father. Settling in Silicon Valley, he worked at electronics factories by day and attended graduate school by night. He earned his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University at age 50.

Faith, Corporate Success, and Global Service

An unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of Guowei's life. In 1995, he served on the building committee for Gospel Chinese Christian Church in Silicon Valley, becoming its first deacon from mainland China. He embarked on rigorous, joyful missions across rural China and Northern Thailand. Answering a higher divine call at age 60, he entered the seminary full-time, earning his second master’s degree in 2005. That same year, he joined SMIC in Shanghai where, over the period of 5 years, he established a state of-the-art custom electronics testing lab from scratch, saving the company millions, securing four distinct patents, and nurturing a thriving Christian fellowship. After returning to the United States and moving to Fremont in 2010, he continued his passionate ministry by serving at the Tri-City Baptist Church in various roles. He faithfully preached, taught Adult Sunday School, and led fellowships, deeply impacting the local community.

Final Years and Unwavering Spirit

In the spring of 2023, just before his 80th birthday, Guowei was diagnosed with advanced stage sarcoma. That same summer, he faced the profound loss of his beloved mother. Throughout years of aggressive radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted medical treatments, his faith in God never faded. It only grew stronger. As the illness progressively impaired his mobility and cognitive skills, he relied ever more deeply on God, constantly facing his medical challenges with determination, hope, and an enduring desire to beat the odds. Even after entering hospice care in March 2026, he still maintained an ironclad determination to fight! Guowei took his final breaths on the evening of August 19, 2026,

passing away peacefully in his Fremont nursing facility shortly after a final, meaningful visit with his son.

Legacy

Known for his youthful spirit and quick wit, Guowei credited his lifelong vitality to a joyful heart and a worry-free faith. Guowei will be remembered for his profound humility, boundless curiosity, and unwavering optimism, living by his personal code that "joy is a good medicine". He is survived by his beloved wife, Huifang, and his devoted son, Allen. He has fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith, and entered into eternal rest with his Lord.
