Hoon Eng. Lim

Hoon Eng Lim was born on May 12, 1945 in China, to Kwee Kee Lim and Shu Hong Ng. She was the sixth of seven children and grew up surrounded by the love and companionship of her siblings: Shu Tee Lim, Twan Kok Lim, Twan Kar Lim, Shu Eng Ong, Hoon Nam Lim, and Twan Kim Lim.

After WWII, her family moved back to Yangon Burma. From an early age, she had a passion for learning, particularly mathematics. While studying as a mathematics major at Yangon Main University, she met her future husband, Toe Yone Paw, who was her classmate.

She graduated with a BS in Math in 1967 and began her career as a Math Assistant Lecturer at Yangon Main University. She was married to Toe Yone Paw on Xmas day in 1971. Together they have one daughter Mi Khine, one granddaughter Michelle, and were happily married for more than five decades.

Hoon continued her education while teaching and earned her Master degree in Math in 1976. She remained devoted to education before later moving to Taiwan with her husband in 1980s, where she worked as a technician. She later migrated to the Bay Area, California in U.S.A. with her husband in mid 1990s. Through hard work and perseverance, she built a new life, working as a production operator at HP/Agilent. She retired in 2010 after many years of dedicated hard work.

Although she achieved much professionally, after her retirement, she found her greatest joy and devoted her time to caring for her loved ones and pursuing one of her greatest passions—travel. She and her husband especially loved cruising and exploring the world. Throughout her lifetime, she visited more than 30 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and South America, creating treasured memories while embracing the beauty and diversity of different cultures.

As a grandmother, Hoon delighted in helping her granddaughter, Michelle, with her mathematics homework, passing on not only her knowledge but also her patience, encouragement, and love of learning. These moments together reflected the kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit that defined her life.

In June 2025, Hoon was diagnosed with advanced cancer. She faced her illness with extraordinary courage, determination, and grace, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments while remaining surrounded by the love of her family. Her final wish was to spend her remaining days at home with those she cherished most. With the support of hospice care, that wish was fulfilled. On July 23, 2026, Hoon passed away peacefully at home, embraced by the love of her family.

Hoon is survived by her devoted husband, Toe Yone Paw; her loving daughter Mi Khine, her loving son-in-law Ye Kyaw Aung and her beloved granddaughter Michelle. She also leaves behind one sister Hoon Nam Lim, extended family, and dear friends, whose lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, and dedication.

Hoon will be remembered as an intelligent teacher, a resilient woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a caring grandmother. Her legacy of love, perseverance, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Though she is no longer with us, her love, wisdom, and beautiful memories will remain in our hearts and will be deeply missed forever!
