Ishaq Matti Shamoun Al Sabti Kallo was born in January 1937 in the historic Christian town of Bartella, Iraq, where his father served faithfully as the town’s priest. He spent his childhood in Bartella before moving to Mosul to pursue his education and begin building his professional life.
In the mid 1950s, during his university years, his father was injured in a car accident. Ishaq continued his studies while simultaneously caring for his father with devotion and steadfastness—an early reflection of the deep sense of responsibility and compassion that would define his character throughout his life.
In the early 1960s, he relocated to Baghdad, where he married the late Munira Ishaq Al Qass Yaqoub Saka. He went on to build a distinguished career, serving for more than thirty five years as Accounting General Manager at a prominent international transport company. After leaving Iraq, he spent several years in the United Arab Emirates before ultimately settling in the United States in mid 2003.
For over twenty three years in the U.S., he lived in Fremont, California, with his beloved wife Munira, his middle son Deacon Bassam, daughter in law Rana, and granddaughters Natalie and Nadeen. Together, they cared for him with love, respect, and unwavering dedication.
Ishaq passed away peacefully in Fremont on September 19, 2026, after a long struggle with illness and the challenges of advanced age.
He is survived by his three children, who carry forward his legacy of faith, integrity, and family devotion:
• Mr. Issam Matti, a professional civil engineer, his wife Mrs. Nadira Shaba, and their daughters Lina, Rand, and Rahaf.
• Dr. Bassam Shamoun, his wife Mrs. Rana Batti, and their daughters Natalie and Nadine.
• Mrs. Nadia Mati, wife of Ambassador, Dr. Wadee Batti, and their children Ammar, Zaid, and Leon.
We pray to the Almighty Lord to envelop him in His boundless mercy and grant him a place in the highest Paradise among the righteous and the virtuous. Amen.
