

Jean Lucille Carico, age 80, of San Leandro, California passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband Vern and family.
Jean was born and grew up in San Luis Obispo. She graduated from San Luis Obispo High in 1961. Jean went on to get a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Cal Poly. Upon graduating she moved to Alameda, working as a Social Worker for Alameda County for more than 30 years. She met and married her husband, Vernon Carico, of 55 years after moving to Alameda. The two of them enjoyed traveling around the world together and spent much of their time learning about different cultures, such as many European countries, Russia, China, Cuba, South America, and the Middle East. Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed volunteering at the San Leandro library after she retired. Her health was very important to her and she loved being active, spending time running, exercising, and hiking. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, making an effort to be involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
Jean is survived by her husband,Vernon; her sisters, Ellen Cheda of Sterling City, and Katherine Riso of Clayton; her nieces and nephews, Linda Fleming, Deborah Ziegler, Kimberlee Perry, Christopher Riso, Natalie Yonemura, and David Riso. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mildred Cheda.
A visitation for Jean will be held Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at San Leandro Funeral Home, 407 Estudillo Ave, San Leandro, CA 94577, followed by a funeral service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
