John Steven Mathias, III was born on September 27, 1987, in Santa Clara, California. He was a rambunctious and energetic young boy growing up being active in every kid’s sports possible; baseball, soccer, basketball, skateboarding and golf. He played mostly baseball excelling at Irvington High School and receiving multiple awards for hitting and fielding. God gave him an extraordinary talent of athletic skills and good hand and eye coordination to successfully compete in a variety of events. Besides sports he participated in every popular fad that came out in those days such as, DDR, Dance Dance Revolution. He was a professional DDR competitor. It was fun to watch!
Throughout his life he had a passion for video and computer games. His first video game was Mario Brothers which his dad also enjoyed. He loved setting up all night lan parties in the garage with all his friends. He played Counter Strike until the last day of his life with his brothers, Michael & Mark.
John also loved working with his dad in construction. He worked many jobs from IKEA to his last job Advoque. He was a hard worker like his dad and he loved meeting new people and making friends like his mother! John was the life of our family and the jokester! He loved spending time with his family at home. He loved making us laugh telling funny stories and he was really good doing imitations of people.
One of his favorite things to do with his family was watching his brother, Mark, play baseball either on the MLB website, on TV or in person across the country or during Spring Training in Arizona.
John’s most important role during his life on earth here was not his job or earning lots of money and achievements, but it was his gentle, kind and loving spirit of the Lord Jesus in him, that made an impact on those that was close to him. Although he struggled in life on earth with the pleasures of the world, he remained obedient to his relationships always showing love, respect, and kindness!
We will surely miss his good cheer and laughter. But, we can rest assured that he is safe in the hands of Jesus. Being with the Lord is the greatest joy he can experience, more than any high on earth! We love you so much, John John!
