Jonathan Dzubur Flynn was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He
was kind, empathetic, sensitive, thoughtful, gentle and shy. He had a deep interest in
history and a love for animals and for the earth. He loved to read and to learn. In recent
years, he developed a passion for horticulture. He tended to his family’s garden, where
he grew vegetables and nurtured a thriving compost bin. He was crossing the street on
his evening walk just one block from home when he was hit by a pickup truck,
eventually passing from injuries he sustained.
Jonathan was a thoughtful and selfless member of the community, who collected
donations to the food bank for his birthday every year. Even though he did not drive, he
registered as an organ donor. We have no doubt that he would want the tragedy of his
sudden death to serve a purpose.
We know that today, our saddest day, is a day of hope for all the people whose lives will
be saved by his organs and for the many people who love them. We hope they will care
for these gifts from Jonathan and live long lives that serve the people around them.
Jonathan was deeply loved by his family. We will always be grateful for the time we had
together and for his eternal gifts. We will dearly miss Jonathan but are comforted to
know that he will live on by giving the gift of life to others. His ashes will nurture the
garden he tended including a tree we will plant in his memory.
May his body give love and life to each organ recipient and to their families, blessing
each for generations to come.
And may his memory live on in the form of kindness and love in each person he’s
touched along the way.
