She married Charley on February 3rd, 1940. They had four children, Bonnie, Charles, Sam and Willie all born in Oklahoma.
They moved to California in 1950 where they worked their way up the state picking fruit and doing miscellaneous farm work. They settled in Sunnyvale where Josie worked at Hunt's Cannery for a short time and then Libby's Cannery for many years.
Over the years we had many gatherings and dinners at her house where she would try to cook everyone's favorite dish. There was always tons of food. She had a way of making everyone feel very welcome and at ease in her home.
Upon retirement Josie and Charley bought a motor home. They took many vacations, family visits and lots of fishing trips. Their square dancing club, friends, and hoedowns were so much fun and a favorite activity for both of them. They enjoyed their retirement immensely. In 1990 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary among lots of family and friends. Seven years later Charley passed away.
Josie took great pleasure in her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and they all loved her very much. She also loved her daughters-in-law as if they were her own girls.
She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds from ceramics to quilting, sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. Family and friends have been the blessed recipients of all these loving gifts.
In 2002 Josie decided she wanted to become a member of Christ Community Church, took the membership class and was was happy to be baptized by immersion with her whole proud family looking on. She also really enjoyed belonging to the Wise Ones group at church, going on their outings and teaching the ladies how to play chicken foot with dominoes.
Josie is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Helen of San Jose, Willie and Jan of Lodi, and her daughter-in-law, Judy of San Jose. She was blessed with seven grandchildren Denise and husbnd, Dennis, Mike and
wife Tonya, Bill and wife Carolyn, Diana and husband, Joaquin, Brenda, Angela and Dawn. She was doubly blessed with twelve great grandchildren, known as the Dirty Dozen - Ryan, Samantha, Chaz, Rachel, Alex, Jacob, Megan, Jack, Michael, Joshua, Elijah, and Sydney. She has an older brother and wife, Harold and Hazel McGuire of Livermore, and many loving nieces and nephews from California to Oklahoma. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all.
