June Katherine Whittier Hart passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, on Friday January 25th, 2019 at Pine Creek Care Center in Roseville CA, her home for seven years. She was 89 years old. She was a long time resident of Fremont, CA for nearly fifty years, moving to Rocklin, CA to be near her daughter and family after her husband Richard passed.
June was born in Sacramento CA, the only daughter of Ezra and Frances Whittier and younger sister to Commander James (Jim) Whittier. She was preceded in death by her mother when June was ten years old, later by her father, and her brother (husband of Mary Whittier). She lost her oldest daughter Judy Smith (wife of Bud Smith) to breast cancer in 1999, her beloved husband Dick in 2006, and her oldest son Rich to pneumonia in 2014. She is survived by her daughter Linda and Jim Brannan, and son Charlie and Annie Hart, and blessed with six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. This includes Judy's children - son Ty and Debbie Smith and their son Jean Paul, daughter Saresa Shutes and her sons Dakota and Dallas (and their father Fred Shutes), daughter Michelle Barrera and her children Ashlyn, Lilliana, and Isaiah. Linda's children include Brian and daughter Jennifer Bourn and their children Natalie and Carter, Dustin and daughter Julie Weirich and their children Riley, Chloe, Axel, and Quinn, and Matt and daughter Kimberly Guyton and their sons Emmerson, Bennett, and Jonah. And nephews Michael, Patrick and Peter Whittier - her dear brother Jim's sons.
June will be layed to rest next to her husband, sweetheart and soulmate of 57 years, Dick Hart. They first met in elementary school in the 5th grade. He was a buyer for Smith's Clothiers in Oakland for 42 years. She worked a short time as a secretary and then as a full time homemaker. They raised their family in Glenmoor Gardens where in the early years they enjoyed participating in the City's Neighborhood Christmas Lighting contests. June was a Presbyterian, had a green thumb, loved roses and gardening (just like her dad) and belonged to the Glenmoor Garden Club. She loved all sports especially baseball and football and even attended the Super Bowl one year. She was active in the Volvo Car Club, loved adventures, enjoyed swimming, her fur babies, coffee, and traveling. At forty she started playing tennis. Tennis quickly became her passion. She had such a love for the game and it brought so much joy to her life. She played doubles leagues, tournaments, garnered several trophies, playing all the way into her seventies. She loved the sport but treasured the lasting friendships most of all.
June was loved by her family and friends who brought so much joy to her life, as she did to theirs. Her caring, kindness, bright smile, and warm personality endeared her to all who knew her. She will live forever in our hearts and our memories.
