

Mario was born on July 22, 1937 at At home in Alaminos, Laguna, Philippines. His parents were Nicomedes and Juana Manalo. Mario was raised in Alaminos, Laguna and Quezon City, Philippines. Mario was raised with 4 siblings. Ingracia-the eldest sister and 3 younger siblings- Irene, Maximo and Paciano.
His favorite class in high school was mathematics. Mario's memorable achievement included receiving the Honorable mention award in High School.When the goal of college was in sight, it became important to Mario. Again, his direct, “down to earth” approach served him well. He worked odd jobs to support his studies from High school to college. Before joining the U. S. Naval Force, he took Aeronautical Engineering classes in Feati University. After retiring from the U.S. Naval Force, he also pursued a college degree school in San Pablo Colleges, where he earned his B. S. Commerce Degree in the early 1980's.
On Sept.13,1970 Mario exchanged wedding vows with Ophelia E. Brion at the St. Francis the Assisi of Mandaluyong. The union was blessed with 2 daughters:Leslie and Yvette.
Mario was a Navy Veteran. He proudly tells everyone, he worked in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. Mario was a cool thinker who could handle himself well in a crisis. Mario saw action for 2 years in the Vietnam war. He achieved the rank of SK1. He received several awards including a Fifth Good conduct award.
Mario enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He had something of an artistic flair in many of the things that he did. He put this creativity toward all of his pastimes. His favorite pursuits were gardening, attending garden shows, playing mahjong and spending time with friends and family.
Mario was an active member of FRA Branch 171 Southern Luzon (Fleet Reserve Association), where he met lots of retirees himself, who became close friends with him as the years went by.
Mario held close traditional values and as a result, faith was important to him. He was a member of the Couples for Christ Norcal-San Jose division.
Mario passed away on July 31, 2014 at V. A. Hospital in Palo Alto, Ca. Mario's body succumbed to multiple organ failure as a result of his chronic diabetes and heart disease. Services will be held at Lima Mortuary in Fremont, Ca, USA and Resurrection Chapel in San Pablo City, Laguna, PI. Mario will be laid to rest in San Gabriel Memorial Park in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines.
Mario was the kind of person who could win others over easily. He was always able to provide amusing repartee to his friends and acquaintances, offering a seemingly endless supply of quips, anecdotes, jokes and stories. He enjoyed his life and the experience of living it. This is how everyone will remember Mario De Mesa Manalo.
