Marivi Alejandro Sayo was born on February 3, 1962 in Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila, Philippines to Virginia Dela Cruz Alejandro and Ruperto Tamayo Alejandro being the first born of four children: Maria Ruvie Alejandro-Lesano, Mario Roy Alejandro, and Maria Relia Alejandro. Loving and devoted, Marivi was described to be the embodiment of a family oriented person. She was helpful to her siblings while demonstrating undying loyalty and generosity. Marivi was also known to have a notable sense of humor. Her sister, Relia, recalls a time where Marivi took bottles from the rest of her siblings despite just having her parents bottle feed her. Marivi’s light-heartedness and humorous personality always brightened up the room wherever she went. Even during her battle against cancer, Marivi always found a way to see the positives of her life and make those around her laugh. During her freetime, Marivi enjoyed baking and was known for her famous cassava cake, maja blanca, and leche flan. She also greatly enjoyed sightseeing outdoors, going shopping with her family, and gossipping with the rest of her family.
Family Life
Marivi was married to Alexander Baga Sayo on February 1997 in Reno, Nevada. She was also a loving mother to her daughter Marichu Alejandro Decendario (1st marriage ) and her son Alexander Gabriel Sayo (2nd marriage to Alexander Baga Sayo). Along with her 2nd marriage to Alexander Baga Sayo, Marivi welcomed Abegail Flores Sayo, her stepdaughter, into the family with open arms. As a mother, Marivi was nothing more than supportive, understanding, and patient to her children. She would always encourage her children to do their best no matter how many hardships they faced along the way in their lives. Even during her tough times enduring the battle against cancer, Marivi placed her children as her number one priority and would always make sure they had everything they needed to succeed. As a family member, Marivi looked after the rest of her family making sure she constantly contributed to their needs to ensure their happiness.
Educational Background + Occupations
Growing up, Marivi attended Antonio G. Llamas Elementary School, Llamas Memorial Institute for highschool, and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines studying Business Management. Marivi began her career working in the Mariveles Mental Hospital as a clerk. Later in 1992, Marivi migrated to the US to pursue more opportunities and provide a better life for her and her daughter Marichu. She landed her first job in the US as an employee of the San Francisco Airport. Eventually, Marivi paved her way into the healthcare field where she was a CNA at multiple private nursing homes and in Kaiser Permanente Hospital where she would later retire as a Unit Clerk.
Overview of Death/Health Condition
Marivi Alejandro Sayo peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 having battled three times against her glioblastoma tumor. Marivi was diagnosed in 1999 with the presence of an aggressive glioblastoma tumor embedded within her brain that was later mostly extracted. The tumor eventually returned fifteen years later in 2014 in which Marivi battled with several cycles of chemotherapy. Although being suppressed from chemotherapy, the tumor reactivated in 2016 causing Marivi to undergo more brain surgery after being diagnosed with brain cancer, Glioblastoma. The tumor induced symptoms of impaired motor control, body tremors, and eventually became the cause of her death several years later. Despite her long, numerous battles with her brain tumor, Marivi never backed down and continued to fight hard against brain cancer alongside the limitless and dedicated support from her family and loved ones.
