Mark E. Perry passed away early Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in San Francisco, CA. Beloved by many, but most especially by his spouses, John Lindner and Alejandro, his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Larry Hart; his nieces, Dr. Elizabeth Hart and Michelle Iles; his sister-in-law, Carole Lindner; his cousins, Suzanne and Jerry Hale and Lynn and Kevin Ready; his nephew, William Lindner; and long-time best friends, John Rusconi and Matt Hart. Upon marrying John in 2002, Mark gained a whole new set of cousins, aunts and uncles, most especially Mary and Gordie McIntosh and Aunts Marion Masterson and Rita Barry. He also began his 20+ year connection to his best “frenemy” and mother-in-law, Dorothy Lindner.
Mark was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, in February 1960, grew up in Trenton and from an early age developed a love of cars and machinery and all it took to create and maintain them. He carried this love and enthusiasm into his professional engineering life at Detroit Edison, SciVac, Rusco, Miasolé, private consulting, and most recently, Bloom Energy. When work allowed, he loved to spend time tinkering on his many vehicles: Impalas, Fords, VWs, Lincolns, Mercedes, Lexuses, Rolls-Royces and Bentleys.
Shortly after coming out, he proudly helped the Triangle Foundation in Detroit start its first billboard campaign in the face of determined business opposition. He continued being a supporter of a variety of LGBTQ+ advocacy groups throughout his life, as well as being the always present behind-the-scenes supporter of John’s political career as an early openly gay elected official in Santa Clara County, CA. He was a longtime annual subscriber to the San Francisco Symphony, loving to treat friends to evenings in a box. He gained new Southern California friends after moving to Palm Springs in early 2020.
He was preceded in death by parents, Willis Earl and Velma Perry, his brother, Michael, as well as beloved aunts, Pete and Cosby.
