In Vietnam, he worked for the US Government in positions that relied on his bilingual skills such as a translator and broadcaster. Before the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, the US government offered to bring his family to the US yet he declined due to his oldest son being an active member of the military. He believed in keeping the family together and emphasized its importance throughout his life. Once able to escape to the US in 1979, he worked as a County Social worker to assist and guide Vietnamese refugees that immigrated to the country. He helped countless families transition to life in the United States.
Nam and his wife Van always showed a great amount of love to their children and grandchildren. After Van passed away Nam continued to spend most of his time with his family and enjoyed watching the Golden State Warriors. Nam always made a positive impression on those around him and he will be remembered by many.
