Nana was born in Taipei, Taiwan, on July 7, 1957, to her mother Lily “Nunai” Gunn, and her father George “Ahgong” Fong. She became a mother in 1973 with the birth of her first child, Michael. In 1975, shortly after the birth of her second child, Nancy, Nana immigrated to San Francisco, where she found employment at Crocker National
Bank, which was later acquired by Wells Fargo. Nana would go on to become a United States citizen in 1984, and would continue working at Wells Fargo until her retirement in 2023.
In 1985, she gave birth to her daughter Nanetta, with whom she would forever share a special bond. In 1990, Nana married Fred Lin, her childhood sweetheart, and the love of her life, and later that year they welcomed her youngest child, Steven. Nana and Fred raised Nanetta and Steven together in the Chinatown apartment which would be her cherished home until her passing. To her children and husband, she will forever be “their perfect Gooh Niang.”
Nana is preceded in death by her mother, Lily “Nunai” Gunn, her father, George “Ahgong” Fong, and her brother, Benjamin Fong. She is survived by her brother, David Fong, her sisters, Janet Shen, Barbara Yu, Pilar Yu, and Diana Yu; her sons, Michael Na and Steven Lin; her daughters, Nancy Standfield and Nanetta Fong Bellamy; her
granddaughter, Jonai Standfield; and her grandsons, Joseph Standfield, Jordan Standfield, Damian Lin, and Caleb Lin.
Nana spent nearly her entire life caring for loved ones, and her family will be eternally grateful for the many sacrifices she made for them. She will be remembered for the deep love she had for her family, her mischievous sense of humor, and for the lasting impact she had on those who loved her. Her perseverance through hardships will always remain a source of inspiration. Her absence is sharply felt, and she will be profoundly missed.
Nana is to be interred at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Fremont, California.
