Quoc Khanh Ha, "Khanh," was born in Saigon, Viet Nam on August 31, 1955 and passed on to the next life on April 13, 2014 in San Jose, California, at the age of 58. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mai Huynh, and daughters Josephine and Michelle, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He grew up in Catholic boarding schools in Vietnam and attended the Blaise Pascal School. He kept in touch with friends from his school days up until his death. Upon finishing high school, he enlisted in the South Vietnamese army and was subsequently detained by the Viet Cong for 11 years. Once freed, he emigrated first to Hong Kong and then to the United States in 1985.
Once he arrived in California, he enrolled in Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. There, he was introduced to another recent emigrant to the US from Viet Nam, Mai Huynh. Mai saw Khanh through automotive mechanic school and they were married on December 31, 1989. Daughter Josephine was born on August 24, 1990 and daughter Michelle was born on December 16, 1991.
Khanh was a trusted and sought-after auto mechanic to his family, friends, and neighbors. Always willing to check on cars and repair them, he worked long and variable hours. A self-taught visual artist and musician, he enjoyed listening to music, watching good films, and playing games in his leisure time. Still, his favorite pastime was hanging out with his friends and family.
