Ramiro Carpio was born in Brawley, California on December 2, 1931. He passed away peacefully at home with his oldest daughter by his side on April 12, 2012. He was a longtime resident of San Jose, California where he raised his family. As a boy and in his teens, he worked the fields of San Joaquin Valley alongside his father and brothers. Despite the odds, he proudly graduated high school, married and had seven children with his wife Amelia who preceded him in death. His only surviving sibling is his beloved brother Genaro Carpio. Ramiro worked very hard to provide for his family. He held various jobs doing janitorial work but was primarily employed by Pacific Nursery Pots which was owned and run by the Tersini family.
His interests included reading the San Jose Mercury newspaper everyday and watching sports of which he was most passionate about college football. He was also an avid John Wayne fan. For more than 30 years, Ramiro has been affectionately known as 'grandpa'. He is survived by his children, 5 sons and 2 daughters, 19 grandchildren and more than 6 great grandchildren. He is fondly remembered for his quiet manner, kind spirit, but most of all for his gentle nature.
