Robert Gordon Pomeroy

1942-2020

It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of our wonderful, amazing, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Robert “Bob” G. Pomeroy, was born in April 1942 in San Francisco and raised in Berkeley, CA and passed away August 15th 2020 in San Jose, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Phyllis Pomeroy.

Bob was married to Jane for over 55 years. Their love story began in college in California. Bob joined the US Army, Signal Corp, retiring as a Lt. Colonel after over 20 years of service. Army life took them across the country, living in 6 different states. After leaving active duty they settled back in California in Milpitas, California.

They raised two daughters: Anne (Dwayne) and Sandra (John). They have 4 grandsons: Timothy, Robert, Michael, and Edward. Bob was a wonder father who was always there for his daughters and grandsons. He taught his daughters to ride a bike and drive a car. Bob’s lessons around the dinner table are too numerous to name them all. He helped to raise three of his grandsons, being the one constant male in their lives, being an example of how to be a good and strong man and a servant leader.

After leaving active duty, Bob joined IPT Corp until he retired. Bob served his church, community, and God faithfully. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s/Holy Family Episcopal Church in Milpitas/San Jose. He was active in the Diocese of El Camino Real and in Cursillo for many years. He was a founding board member of New Families, Inc. foster family agency, serving as president until his health forced his retirement.

Bob battled Parkinson’s for the last 18 years. He showed tremendous determination, tenacity, and optimism throughout, remaining active for all but the last few years. While our hearts are broken, we know he's in a better place, free from Parkinson’s and with his Lord.

He is greatly missed by his wife Jane, daughters Anne and Sandra, grandsons Timothy, Robert, Michael, and Edward, sister Pamela (Al), niece Nicole, and grandnephew Leo, and many many friends.
