Ruby C. McKinney

October 20, 1942July 6, 2019

Ruby passed peacefully at home with family by her side. She is survived by her loving husband Robert, sons James and Rob, daughter Kimberley, two grandsons, Blake and Nolan, daughter-in-law Judy, and son-in-law Todd. Her sister, Mary, brother, Hughie and many nieces, nephews, and cousins all throughout the globe. Ruby was born in Coleraine, Ireland and grew up in Scotland. After marrying Robert, she moved all over the world as he was in the Navy. She fondly called Scotland home and will forever be “One of the Brave”. She worked as a pottery designer and was an amazing seamstress. She especially loved her family. She adored her grandsons and all the time she spent with them. She went on many family holidays and was always up for an adventure. Ruby had an amazing spirit, a big heart and was always giving to others. She was also very fond of animals and had a special place in her heart for them. She will forever be in our hearts and leaves us with many, many wonderful memories. A private family memorial service will be held on July 20, 2019. In Lieu of Flowers a remembrance in honor of Ruby may be made to her favorite charity the ASPCA at

It's a rarity to meet people who will touch our lives, or warm our hearts, or add value to everyday life. Mama Ruby did just that and more. She touched lives by showing how much she cared, warmed hearts by giving so selflessly to others, and she added value by being so supportive.

I am grateful that my path has led me to the Mckinneys, and to have been able to spend the time I did with Mama Ruby. I have many fond memories of Mama Ruby that I will remember and cherish always...the Girls weekend casino run (those were great times!); holidays, birthdays, and the just-because moments; the Highland Games; our telephone conversations.

The one thing I will miss the most are my Mama Ruby hugs. It was Mama Ruby that I learned the power of the hug; a gesture so simple, yet her hugs made you feel welcomed and loved.

I will forever hold Mama Ruby close to my heart. I will miss you always, Mama Ruby.

I was so blessed to have had the best mother in-law. She was the most caring, compassionate and loving woman. I will never forget all our memories traveling around the world with my in-laws. Great times! Ruby we had a lot of laughs, talks, and was always there for me. I loved you like a mother and will miss you everyday for the rest of my life. You will always be in my heart. ❤️😘

My mum and I shared so many memories from talks about growing up in Scotland, texting everyday, traveling the world, gambling and being together for the holidays. She was not only my mum but my best friend. She was always there for me whatever the situation was. She will be forever in my heart. When we ended our conversations, we always said Cheerio to each other, which means goodbye in Scottish. Now I will be saying Cheerio to her for the last time and a peace of my heart will go with her. Mum I truly will miss you so much. My heart is broken! ❤️😘

My mom Ruby was one of the sweetest ladies you'll ever know. She was so kind to everyone that she meet and loved her wee pets. Mom taught me how to cook, clean up after myself and sew. I'm very proud that Ruby was my mom. She is my best friend, I could talk to her about everything in life. Mom enjoyed life, meeting new people and loved everyone I brought into my life as one of her own. Mom had an amazing life, growing up in Scotland for me with her was priceless. I could not have asked for a better life growing up with my caring mom. I am the youngest of my siblings and mom loved us all equal. I will miss my mom everyday of my life. And I will see her again one day. Thank you to everyone that shares their life stories of my mom.

Ruby will always be a part of me! We shared stories and secrets and laughter. So much laughter. We told each other many times how we were grateful for our friendship. We both collected rocks. She had the best rubber band ball in process that I’ve ever seen. I taught her how to play Sudoku. She taught me Scottish slang. When Mary and Ruby got chatty, their accents got so strong. I loved that. She loved all living creatures. She would get the snails off the hot glass and take them to safety. She always saved bread from her lunch to feed birds. She would not let us kill flys. I got a kick out of her and Mary’s Beanie Baby missions. She kept a stuffed rabbit in her car and I loved it when she came to work with little barrettes in her hair. She was a feisty red head who I will always love. My heart has been broken into pieces. Farewell my dear friend until we meet again. xoxo
