Soledad (Sally) Foronda Salvador-Corbilla was born on September 6, 1940 in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Raymundo and Macaria Foronda. She passed away on July 14, 2019 in Santa Clara, CA. She is survived by her husband Ben, her five children (Maximo Jr, Jeff [Joan], Nemy [Mary Ann], Lisa [Robert], and Rose [Sean]), nine grandchildren (Anthony, Chanel, Monica, Enya, Madison, Shelby, Jeremy, Jazmine, and Julianne), seven brothers and sisters (Rufina, Marina, Beatrix, Lino, Cenon, Fidel, and Nora), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Maximo Sr, son David (twin brother of Maximo Jr), and 2 brothers (Antonio and Mariano).
Before emigrating to the U.S., Sally worked as a maid in Manila. She arrived in the U.S. in 1960, eventually settling in Santa Clara, CA. One of her proudest achievements was successfully petitioning her brothers and sisters to the United States, fulfilling a promise she made to her father and enabling her siblings and their families with more opportunities for a better life. Her commitment and love for her siblings was undeniable, and everyone considered her to be the matriarch of the family.
As a single parent after Maximo Sr passed away in 1978, Sally became the main provider for the family until she retired in 2001. Her work career spanned five decades, where she began working at a nearby floral nursery. Next, she transitioned to the electronics industry where she worked for companies including AMD, Avantek and Amelco. Finally, she embarked on a 30-year career at Lockheed where she worked on many key projects, including Skylab, the Hubble Space Telescope, and the International Space Station until retirement.
Despite her busy work schedule, she always made time for herself and others, and even more so in retirement. She was an active member of several Filipino senior organizations. Her hobbies included gardening, dancing and going to casinos with friends and family, and she was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. However, she experienced the most joy in spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren. She took great pride offering her wisdom and advice to them. She also loved recounting stories of her childhood in the Philippines, her early adult life in the U.S, and her adventures at Lockheed. Lastly, she enjoyed hosting the annual Christmas Eve party at her home for over 40 years.
Sally’s unconditional love of family, zest for life, sense of humor and youthful energy will be missed, but her life lessons will endure in all who were fortunate to know her. Her faith in God assisted her in overcoming each challenge she faced, resulting in the strong independent woman we love so much.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, and to her family and friends who visited during her brief stay.
