Verna Marshall passed away on Monday, August 1st after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. Verna touched many lives with her sweet spirit and never ending positive disposition towards all aspects of life.
Verna was born at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland. Verna graduated from Washington High School in Fremont and obtained her A.A. degree at Chabot College. Verna worked as a waitress at Big Daddy’s Drive-In, Denny’s, and the Holiday Inn. Verna had an avid interest in the health care field and volunteered many hours at Washington Hospital. She later worked at senior living facilities, Merrill Gardens and Parkview, where she was adored by residents and co-workers.
Verna is survived by her loving mother, Joanne Marshall; devoted nieces Jordan Marshall, Caitlin Duffy, Megan Morrissey, and Scarlett Bustamante; devoted nephews Marshall Duffy, Joey Morrissey, Paul Bustamante, and Raul Bustamante. She is survived by her loving siblings; Jim Marshall, Sue Bustamante and husband Raul, Dawn Duffy and husband Neal, and Eva Morrissey. Verna will be missed by all who knew her but none more than her family. Verna is our heart and her sweet, gentle spirit will remain with us always.
