Alice was born on May 25, 1924, the daughter of John and Vida (Fields) Fretz. She married William Swager (now deceased). She was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the last class of the Army Cadet Nurse Program at Methodist Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She then worked at Cameron Hospital.
She retired from nursing to raise her family and help with the family business. She later returned to nursing, working 8 years at Lakeland Nursing Center as director of nursing. Upon moving to Brockville Commons, she worked 16 years as the Nutritional Site Director at Brockville.
Survivors include sons Dan and Susan (Dehn) Swager, Lee and Mindy (McDonald) Swager, a daughter-in-law, Rebekah (Dennison) Swager. Eleven grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by 3 sons: Jay Swager, Roy Swager, and Tim Swager and a daughter Eve Swager-Foster, a daughter in law Deborah (Browning) Swager, a grandson Matthew, and a great-great granddaughter Kaylee, three sisters and two brothers.
She enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, and bird watching.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.
The Funeral Service will be at 11 am Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Rev. James Hazekamp will officiate the service.
Burial will follow the service at Fremont Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana.
