Bernice Katherine Procel Gronczewski, resident of Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Angola, Indiana, Fox Lake, Prospect Heights, and Chicago, Illinois, died at the age of 94 years after a long illness.
Bernice was born on May 25, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Katherine (Dorken) and Chester Procel. She was the eldest of four sisters, Jean, Helen, and Rose Mary. Bernice also had two older step-siblings, Eleanor and Richard. Bernice grew up in the Polish enclave of Chicago. She graduated from Good Counsel High School in Chicago and attended Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois, majoring in accounting.
Bernice loved numbers and used her abilities volunteering in her children’s organizations, charitable financial assistance health organizations, and senior citizen income tax preparation.
Bernice enjoyed grandparenthood, traveling, socializing, and having large family parties in her home. Family loyalty and support were her personal priority and traits that she instilled in her children.
She will be sadly missed by her children: Catherine (Robert) Domres of Vero Beach, Florida, Richard (Janet) Gronczewski of Angola, Indiana, and Laura (Steve) Ewald of Gainsville, Georgia. Grandchildren: Neal Domres (deceased), Edward and David Gronczewski, Christopher (Molly) Ewald, and Katie Ewald. Great-Grandchildren: Austin, Karington, Kiann, and Jocelyn. And great-great-granddaughter, Addilynn.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband Casey, of 55 years, her sisters: Helen, Rose Mary, step-siblings Eleanor Domek and Richard, and a grandson Neal.
A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later time.
