He was born in Hudson, Michigan on January 14, 1952 to the late Harry Lyle and Beulah Mae (Zeigler) DeMeritt.
He graduated from Bronson High School in 1970.
David married Ella Grubbs on January 6, 1973.
He worked as a meat cutter for most of his life, working for several grocery stores and independently.
David enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of owning his own store, which he and Ella started in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Ella DeMeritt of Bronson, Michigan, sons, David (Torre) DeMeritt and Corey (Paula) DeMeritt, both of Coldwater, Michigan, grandchildren, Abbigale DeMeritt, Issabella DeMeritt, Logan DeMeritt, Elizabeth Thorne and Adam Thorne and many nieces and nephews.
He also preceded in death by sisters, Joyce and Darlene, and brothers, Herbert, Bud, Jerry and Jim.
Visitation will be held from 11 am until 1 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.
A Funeral Service will follow at 1 pm Tuesday at Beams Funeral Home. Rev. Chuck Fenwick will officiate the service.
Burial will follow at East Gilead Cemetery, Bronson, Michigan.
