Doyle Richard Marten, age 72, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at his residence Fremont, Indiana He was born on September 5, 1944 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of August Marten and Ina (Turner) Blanchard He married Sherry L. (McCartney) on June 28, 1968 in Garrett, Indiana. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2007. Doyle retired as a truck driver for Northern Steel, Toledo, Ohio, and worked for them for 25 years. Doyle was a very well known man, and was a good person. He would go out of his way to help others. He wouldn’t hesitate to buy a homeless person a meal. He enjoyed selling things, watching NASCAR, and talking and telling jokes to everyone he met. After he retired he went headstrong into selling things to people just for the sake of meeting new people. He became well known in the Amish Community as the “Mattress Man”. He will be very missed by everyone that ever came into contact with him. Survivors include his sons, Richard (Lori) Marten, Rick (Chris) Marten, Kurt Marten, and Danny Marten, all of Fremont, Indiana, Doyle R. Marten, Jr. of Michigan, Cecil Marten, and David (Debbie) Jorn, both of Angola, Indiana, his daughters, Tammy ( Eric) Egly of Fremont, Indiana, and Sherry Lynn Fraley of Michigan, a daughter-in-law, Bobbi (Scott) Hiner of Fremont, Indiana, 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Ina Miller of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Rosealee Mosley of Garrett, Indiana, and Charmaine Kendall of Wawaka, Indiana, and his companion, Joni Pearson of Fremont, Indiana. He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy L. Marten, a grandson, Nathan Marten, his first wife, Clara (Jorn) Marten, and a brother, Ivan Blanchard. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Rev. Kenneth L. Weaver officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana Memorial donations in his memory are requested to the Steuben County Humane Shelter, Angola, Indiana.
