

He was born December 1st, 1941 at 12:01 am in Elkhart, Indiana to Ralph H. and Eleanor L. (Keyes) Elliott, six days before the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. They returned to Orland before his 1st birthday and he grew up there and graduated from Orland High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January of 1961 and was assigned to its Security Service branch. He attended Tech School at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi, and after graduating 1st in his class he selected San Vito Dei Normanni Air Station in southern Italy as his duty assignment. After 18 months of service there he was transferred to Lincoln Air Force Base in Nebraska where he was responsible for all pilot related classified material in the office of the Deputy Commander of Operations for the 98th Bomb Wing SAC. He was honorably discharged in January of 1965 and immediately went to work for the CB & Q railroad at their diesel shop in Lincoln for the next five years. He returned to Orland in January 1970 and attended Tri-State College for three years. During the next 20 years he worked for EMF Corporation. In 1993 he was elected finance officer of the American Legion Post 423 in Orland, a position that he held for the next ten years. The following year he was selected to be the post’s Club Manager and served in that position for nine years. In 2006 he ran for the office of Millgrove Township Trustee and was elected. He was an avid gun enthusiast and during his last few years made several trips to the Dakotas on prairie dog hunts which he enjoyed immensely.
He is survived by his wife, Diana of Orland, two brothers and two sisters, Tom and Karen (Miller) Elliott of Ft. Wayne, Jeff and Susan (Barnes) Elliott of Howe, Joe and Suzanne (Elliott) Dicara of Tabernacle, NJ, and Carl and Robin (Elliott) Sears of Orland, and also by one son, Johnathan Elliott
and (fiancée Amber Quinn) of Ft. Wayne, and one daughter Colleen (Michael) Willms of Fremont, two grandchildren, Braxton Elliott and Kambria Elliott, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Elliott in 1993, and his mother, Eleanor Elliott in 2013.
Memorial Services will be held at 5 pm Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Pastor Greg Long officiating. There will be one hour of calling prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Military Honors will conclude the services, with the Orland American Legion Color Guard, and United States Air Force honor team, presenting a military tribute to Mr. Elliott.
Memorials donations in Mr. Elliott’s memory are requested to the Orland Volunteer Fire Department.
