Howard James Pierce Sr.

Howard was born on May 10, 1928 in Millgrove Township, in Steuben County, Indiana, the son of Leon and Bertha (Pocock) Pierce.

He graduated from Flint High School. He also attended Purdue University and received an associates degree.

Howard was a lifetime farmer, and also worked for the Indiana Toll Road for twenty years. He also was a school bus driver for Fremont Community Schools, and after retirement he worked for the Angola Walmart in the hardware and paint department.

He was a longtime member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana.

Howard married Bonnie Jean Clark on October 17, 1948 at Salem Center.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Pierce of Fort Wayne, Indiana, two daughters, Judy Hostetler of Lake James, Fremont, Indiana, and Phyllis (Larry) Hess of Crossville, Tennessee, three sons, Howard “Jim” James Pierce, Jr., Sunman, Indiana, Charles Arthur (Julie) Hostetler Pierce of Angola, Indiana, and Richard (Patty) Pierce of Jeffersonville, Indiana, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a sister, Leona (Noel) Tilbury Brock of Angola, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gaylord Pierce, a sister, Ireta Diehl Hancock, and a son-in-law, Richard Douglas “Rick” Hostetler.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 355 East State Road 120, Fremont, Indiana 46737, and also on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11 am at the Lutheran Life Villages Chapel, 6701 South Anthony Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46816. Officiating the memorial services will be Chaplain Pete Meneghello, Assistant Chaplain Pastoral Care at Lutheran Life Villages.
