John F. Sawyer

He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on June 21, 1938. He was the only child of Elmer and Helen (nee Henschen) Sawyer. He attended Harrison Hill Elementary School and South Side High School and was graduated from St. Francis College with BA and MS degrees. For 37 years, he taught English and coached a number of sports in FWCS. In 2001, he moved to Lake Lavine, Michigan, and substituted at Fremont High School, Indiana for over 10 years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Joey. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rebecca (nee Sebert); sons Douglas, Sean, and Daniel; daughters Angela and Nicole; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 pm until 5 pm Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, followed by a eulogy and praying of the rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, Albion, Indiana, 46701.
