She was born on March 3, 1956 in Angola, Indiana to the late Leon and Dorothy (Northam) Champion.
Kathryn grew up on a family farm surrounded by many animals, which instilled in her a love of all animals and a strong work ethic. She was known for her honest, humorous and brave nature.
Kathryn graduated from Fremont High School in 1974. After her high school graduation Kathryn moved to Naples, Florida where she spent some of the happiest years of her life on the beach. As a young woman Kathryn had aspired to graduate from college to teach high school English.
She married Michael John Craun on June 19, 1986 in Fremont, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2016. Together they built a loving family, including their daughter Casey, son-in-law Tony, and two granddaughters, Nataleigh and Isabelle, whom Kathryn cherished most of all.
Kathryn had a wide array of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed watching crime shows and serial killer documentaries, over analyzing Dr. Phil shows with her daughter, and she had a deep love for dogs, cats and birds. Reading and online shopping were among her favorite past times. She found joy in listening to 70’s music – specifically ‘I Am A Rock’ by Simon and Garfunkel or ‘The Magician’ by Uriah Heap.
Kathryn was brutally honest and loved and supported all members of her family. Her legacy is defined by the love and support she provided to her family, especially her granddaughters.
The family extends their gratitude to Elara Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate service over the years with Kathryn. Special thanks to Susan Organ for ensuring Kathryn was not alone when she needed care the most.
