Nancy Jane Stafford

Nancy Jane (Kempf) Stafford, age 93 of Fremont, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Cameron Health in Angola, Indiana. Her loving family was by her side. She was born on February 24, 1933 in Jackson MI, to the late Albert and Lucy (Boley) Kempf. Nancy was the oldest of five children.

Nancy married Maynard John Stafford on June 2, 1956, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage. She and Maynard raised three children, Sallie (Steve) Whelan, David (Beth) Stafford and Sandy (Patrick) Brewbaker. She was the loving grandmother of seven, Timothy (Molly) Whelan, Matthew Stafford, Samuel (Brittany) Whelan, Grace Whelan, Jennifer Stafford, Caleb Brewbaker and Natalie Brewbaker. She also enjoyed eleven great grandchildren.

Nancy retired from Fremont Community Schools after 22 years of service in 1992. She was a Kindergarten aide and worked in the elementary library. She finished her career as the high school Librarian. She touched many students’ lives.

During the blizzard of 1978, Nancy gave her life to Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She served Him in many capacities and was an example of faith to all those who knew her. She loved the Lord and her family and attended every activity and sporting event that they were involved in and was a great encouragement to them. As a wife, she supported Maynard in his work, his service to the community and was the strong, quiet backbone behind it all.

She faithfully prayed for her family and friends. She was more than just a wife, mom or grandma. She was a dear friend. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Lucy Kempf, her sister Norma Hudson and brother- in- law Howard Hudson, her brother Albert Kempf Jr., and her sister Bernadine Webster and brother-in-law- Harold Webster. She is survived by her husband Maynard Stafford, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her sister Nadine (Larry) Alexander and sister-in-law Peggy Kempf.

Visitation will be 12 noon until 2pm, Monday, July 20,2026 at Fairview Missionary Church, 525 East 200 North, Angola Indiana. Her Celebration of Life will follow at 2pm with Pastor Norman Fuller officiating. A private family burial will be held at Jamestown Cemetery. Memorials in her memory can be sent to Fairview Missionary Church or the Maynard Stafford Scholarship at Fremont Community Schools.
