Robert Joseph Gary

Mr. Gary had retired as an attendant for the Indiana Toll Road. He had previously been the owner of Gary's Standard gas station in Fremont from 1973 to 1989.

He had served as a Fremont Town Council member and was a Fremont firefighter for 10 years.

Mr. Gary was a lifetime Steuben County resident and graduated from Fremont High School in 1963.

He enjoyed fishing, garage sales, riding his moped, collecting antique bicycles, repairing bicycles, and spending time with family and grandchildren.

He was born Sept. 11, 1944, in Angola to Kenneth and Genevieve (Riede) Gary. He married Barbara A. Mingus on Dec. 22, 1964, in Angola. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Tina and Steve Hantz of Angola and Tara Gary of Fremont; two sons, Terry and Tedi Gary of Angola and Tracy "Dude" Gary of Richland, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Gary of Clear Lake, Fremont, and Sally and Joe Mowrey of Clear Lake, Fremont; a brother, Jim and Joyce Gary of Fremont; and a sister-in-law, Joan Gary of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Gary.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Lynn Eicher officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorials are to the Fremont Fire Department or the American Heart Association.
