Wendell Lamar Schaeffer

Wendell Lamar Schaeffer, age 97, of Angola, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Angola, Indiana. He was born on June 26, 1926 in Fremont, Indiana to Earl and Eddith (Easthom) Schaeffer. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1944 until 1947, and graduated from Fremont High School while overseas in the service as a member of Fremont High School class of 1945. Wendell was a longtime associate at J.C. Penney in Angola, retiring in 1989, and was known as Mr. J.C. Penney. He enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with his family, and was a member Evangelical United Brethren Church in Fremont. Survivors include daughters, Pamela (Terry) Witham of Hudson, Indiana, and Kathy (Michael) Depue of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, a son-in-law, Thomas Bevins of Fremont, Indiana, grandchildren, Stacy (Chris) Dobson of Frankfort, Illinois, Brian (Megan) Teegardin of Oxford, Michigan, Lance (Stephanie) Witham of Flat Rock, Michigan, Clinton (Carrie) Depue of Hudson, Indiana, Daniel (Audra) Depue of Churubusco, Indiana, Heather (Jacob) Baughman of Fremont, Indiana, and Christopher Bevins, great-grandchildren, Benjamin Beutler, Nicholas Beutler, Sean Dobson, Robby Dobson, Aidan Depue, Claire Depue, Jacob (Sydney) Baughman, James (Faith) Baughman, Jessie Baughman, Jace Baughman, Anthony Teegardin, Sarah Teegardin, Riley Witham, Presley Witham, Calvin Depue, and Caleb Depue, great-great-grandchildren, Marcia Baughman, Phoenix Baughman, and James Baughman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Eddith Schaeffer, sister, Vivian Esther Mims, brothers, Gilbert Dean Schaeffer, and Donald Raymond Schaeffer, wife, Wilma (Mounts) Schaeffer, and Patricia (Yarman) Schaeffer, daughter, Marcia Bevins, step-son, Gary Yarman, and special friend, Beverly Clester. Memorial Services will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Rev. Lance Witham will officiate the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 am until 11 am Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Beams Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana with military honors. Memorial donations in his memory may be directed to Honor Flight Northeast Indiana, P.O.
