

Albert C. Nichols, 93, of Fremont died Friday, June 8th at Countryside Continuing Care Center. He was born October 11, 1918, in Mercy County, OH the son of Wilbur and Ida Ruth (Krugh) Nichols. He was a 1936 graduate of York School in Mercer County, OH. He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Lininger; she died in 1971. He married Mary E. Durnwald Redding in 1972; she died in 2007. Al was very involved in the Fremont community. He was a member of: Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Brainard Lodge, Zenobia Shrine Club, Elks Club, Treasurer of Memorial Hospital for 15 years, Past President of Fremont Kiwanis Club, served as President of United Way, affiliated with Boy Scouts of America and Campfire Girls, Salvation Army, Served with 97th and 104th Infantry Division in the European Theatre, WWII. He was a messenger with Metropolitan Bank in Lima in 1937, joined Croghan Colonial Bank 1952, became President in 1968, then became Chairman of the Board in 1984. He retired in 2000. He was an active hospital volunteer for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Ann Sharp of Fremont; three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mildred; second wife, Mary; son, Larry; son-in-law, George Sharp.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from 9:00-11:00AM at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St, Fremont. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial is private. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or Memorial Hospital Auxillary Scholarship Fund.
