Dolores “Dee” Vernice Grabel, 94, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Valley View Health Campus. She was born the daughter of Art and Selma (Banning) Carlson on November 19, 1923. On November 29, 1947 she married the love of her life, Oliver Eugene “Gene” Grabel in Jefferson, OH, and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2011. Dolores graduated from college with a Bachelors in Education. She loved teaching, and educated the young minds in kindergarten and second grade at Hayes Elementary School for 34 years. Among her other passions was playing bridge and reading. In fact, she had a strong reputation as a voracious reader, and could boast that she finished War in Peace in only two weeks. Dolores was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Garden Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Susan Grabel Law, of Fremont, Dave (Theresa) Grabel of Madison, OH, William Grabel, of Fremont, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Gene Grabel.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with services beginning at 1:00pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Susann Robitski Zimmerman will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Dolores’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Valley View Health Campus and ProMedica Hospice for their phenomenal care and support during her stay at the nursing home.
